Following Google’s recent ‘Mayday Mayhem’ algorithm change, the importance of linkwheel to your site has never been greater. But there is a fine line between creating enough backlinks for Google to rank your site well and creating just a few too many, which could leave your site suffering from the dreaded Google Slap.
So is there a safe way to create and point thousands of links to your money pages without the risk of seeing your site de-indexed? Fortunately for us impoverished Internet Marketers there is.
The technique is a really simple one, but to implement it successfully requires a degree of organisation and quite a lot of work.
The secret lies in the trust that Google places in the bigger Web 2.0 sites such as Hubpages, Squidoo, Posterus and other similar sites.
Creating accounts at these sites and then posting articles to them with links pointing back at your money page is nothing new, in fact if you haven’t been doing this already then you have been ignoring a serious SEO resource.
But, just throwing a few posts onto half a dozen web 2.0 sites and grabbing a few random backlinks is not the most efficient use of your time and it can hardly be considered an effective SEO and backlinking regime.
So what should you be doing?
Well quite simply, you should be linking your web 2.0 properties together and then throwing as many links as possible towards those sites.
So, for instance, if you created accounts at Posterous, Weebly, Squidoo and WordPress, you would post an article to each site with a link pointing towards your money pages. The article would also have a link pointing to one of the other Web 2.0 sites. As an example, the article on Posterous would have a link to your money page and a link the new article on Weebly. In turn the Weebly article would again link to your money pages but also to the article on Squidoo and so on until you have a ring of sites, each with a link back to you money pages. Think of it as a wheel and the links back to your money pages as the spokes to that wheel. Hence the term Linkwheel.
But, while that structure is better than independent Web 2.0 sites, it still isn’t particularly good.
What you need to do now is grab the RSS feed for each of the Web 2.0 properties and submit them to a bunch of RSS directories, the more the better, But at least ten. Then take all of your RSS feeds and mash them up into a new RSS feed using a site such as Yahoo Pipes or even xFruits, then submit that to all the RSS directories as well.
So what you have now is a bunch of sites with at least 11 backlinks pointing towards each of them.
But, we don’t want to stop there. Next you want to create accounts at as many social bookmarking sites as possible and then bookmark each of your new Web 2.0 sites and also the new article on each of the sites.
So, lets say you have created accounts on sites like Propellor, Digg, Delicious or whatever your favourites are, then each of those will add an extra 2 backlinks to each site in your linkwheel.
So, what next? How about taking the urls of your new bookmarks and cross submitting them to the other bookmarking sites, then grab the RSS feeds for those bookmarks and submit those to the top RSS directories.
Are you keeping count of the backlinks that are being created here?
Your four Web 2.0 properties have 44 RSS feeds and 120 bookmarks, then each of those 120 bookmarks could have another 120 bookmarks pointing at it, that’s over 14000 backlinks so far. To that you can add a shed load of RSS feeds.
What about if you create some forum profiles with links to each of your linkwheel sites, then bookmark all of those and add them to RSS directories?
Do you see what is happening here? The link juice that flows from those 1000’s of backlinks you have just created is running directly into your Web 2.0 sites. From there the power of that entire link network is funnelled straight into your money pages. And because Google loves WEB 2.0 sites your own money site has a zero chance of getting slapped or de-indexed.
So, whilst on initial inspection it may seem like your site only has 4 backlinks pointing towards it, the combined link juice from those sites is the equivalent of many thousands of direct links.
Imagine now, how much link power would be unleashed onto you money pages if, instead of using just four Web 2.0 sites, you used, ten, fifteen or even twenty-five!
Without doubt linkwheels are one of the most powerful tools in an Internet Marketers arsenal, if you haven’t discovered what they can do for you then act now and create one. You will be amazed at the results when the full power of a linkwheel is unleashed.
